Exam Study Tips for Postponed 2021 CFA® Level I Exam

Due to conditions caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, the CFA institute postponed the June exams and cancelled the December 2020 exams. The CFA institute announced changes to the schedule by adding new exam windows and exam format.

In 2021, there are three exam sittings, and the examination is computer-based. If you rescheduled your exams or were affected by the postponement, we have excellent study tips to help you pass your exams.

March 2021 exam sitting

The first exam sitting for 2021 is from March 21st to 23rd. If you reschedule your exam to March 2021, it is wise to use the time to practice for the exam. The following tips will ensure that you make the most of your study time.

  • Take review tests every week to ensure you understand key concepts and how to apply them. Additionally, test yourself on all subject areas and aim for a score of 70% and above.

May 2021 sitting

The set dates for May 2021 sitting is May 18th to 24th.  If you rescheduled your exams from December 2020, you should make the most of the time to catch up on your studies. To this end, the following study tips will be helpful during your preparation.

  • Make use of flashcards to remind yourself of key concepts and formulas. Ensure that each flashcard has only one concept or formula on it. However, you should only take the time to write flashcards if it does not take up time to take revision questions.

July and August exam sitting

One of the changes announced by the CFA Institute was the addition of the July exam window for level 1. However, the July exam dates are unannounced. The August sitting is from August 24th to 30th. It could be challenging to keep up the morale to study and retain the information if your initial exam date was December 2020.

These tips will help you stay on track and prepare for the exams.

November 2021 exam sitting

The exam window for the November series is 16th to 22nd.  Although this is almost a year after the original December 2020 series, you should ensure that you keep up with your studies. Furthermore, remembering the information you studied can be challenging.

Final preparation checklists before you sit for the exam:

  1. Ensure that you take four or more practice exams
  2. Secondly, you should take the mock exam provided by the CFA Institute.
  3. Additionally, ensure that you practice for the computer-based exam format used in the exam. The Analystprep.com practice exam simulates the actual exam format and interface. Specifically, the mock exam should be at least 75% in length as the test and provided a scratch paper or an erasable writing tablet.
